Schools

Bacolod School

This school is being run in a rented facility which belongs to YMCA. It is located in the center of the city serving squatter communities established along the river that flows through the city as part of the drainage system. This school started in June 2008 with grade levels from one to three and with progression over the years now it has grown to 3rd-year high school. In 2015 grade ten will be added and that will complete this high school. All the people being served in this school are poverty stricken and are grateful to ABC for making their burdens lighter. ABC school has made a tremendous difference in the lives of these children and their parents as well. Currently, the enrollment in this school stands at 251. ABC Philippines is praying and hoping that someday ABC will have its own school building to continue serving children from the surrounding communities for years to come.

Binalbagan School

In 2011 a pre-school was started in Conmoros, Binalbagan upon the request of the community leaders. With regular visits to Binalbagan, ABC staff noticed that a lot of teenagers do not go to school in this community. After talking to community leaders, parents and even some young people, it was known that after they finish elementary school, which is right in the middle of their community, students have to travel a little distance to attend high school. Since this is a community of low-income non-skilled workers and many do not have jobs, parents could not afford to pay for all the expenses involved in sending their children to high school so they had to be pulled out of school. After realizing the desperation of these families and the desire of the young people to receive more education, in 2012 ABC started 1st-year high school to cater to the needs of the community. In 2013 and 2014 2nd and 3rd-year high school, levels were added and ABC intends to add next level in 2015. Currently, 122 students are enrolled in this school at all levels.

Children’s Ministry at Quezon City

Tens of thousands of children live on the streets of major cities in the Philippines. Most spend their days begging for money to buy food. These children become vulnerable to the ills of society and become victims of drug abuse, child prostitution, sexual exploitation by pedophiles, health, and sexually transmitted diseases. ABC Children’s Aid Philippines has a small project for these deserving children in Quezon City. The objectives are to provide these children with hot meals, a place to sleep, facility to take shower, get a change of clothes, to be involved in planned activities, talk to trained councilors and possibly paving a way for them to receive a formal or vocational education. It is worth noting that ABC Philippines is limited in this project due to financial constraints.

Pahanocoy School

This is a community of relocated squatters from a place in the proper city which has been turned into a big high-end shopping mall. This community is known for all kinds of negative vices. Adults are involved in activities such as prostitution, gambling and other illegal means of income. Most of the community members live below the poverty line which pushes them to get involved in indecent and illegal activities. Many of the children in this community were neglected and they got involved in different ills of the society as well. ABC thought of helping these children so that they can bring about a positive change in their lives. ABC is running a preschool in this community from last four years and much difference can be seen in the lives of the families and children who attend ABC school. ABC desires to develop this school further by offering elementary and high school education but due to financial constraints and lack of facilities, this need has been put on a hold. Currently, 43 children are enrolled in this school.

Manapla School

ABC Manapla School serves a community of fishermen, laborers, domestic helpers and jobless people. The income level of these people is so low that they have difficulty providing proper educational opportunities to their children. In 2008 ABC Children’s Aid Philippines started a school in this community from grade levels one to five. Over the years one higher grade level was added every year and today there is a complete high school in Manapla. ABC is proud to say that in March 2014 first batch of senior students graduated from this high school. ABC is now working with these graduates and assisting them  to get college education. Currently 264 students are enrolled in Manapla school in all levels.

Taloc School

This school started in June 2010 and it is serving a scattered community of poverty stricken farmers. One of the Korean friends gave money for a church to be erected in this area for the community. Until now church building was being used as a church school providing pre-school education to the children in the surrounding communities. With growing interest of the donors in this community, two new classrooms have been built, more are promised as the need arises, and now there is a possibility of even offering elementary education for these children. Currently, 19 students are enrolled in this school.
