Buwan ng Wika 2023 Showcases Talented Students

The "Buwan ng Wika" is observed every August of the year in accordance with Proclamation No. 1041, issued in 1997. This year, the celebration of "Buwan ng Wika" featured the theme: “Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Wika ng Kapayapaan, Seguridad, at Ingklusibong Pagpapatupad ng Katarungang Panlipunan.”

The Light Christian Academy Of ABC Children's Aid Philippines- Binalbagan Negros Occidental, Incorporated recently held its highly anticipated Buwan ng Wika, last September 08, 2023, showcasing the incredible talents of its students in various competitions and performances. The event brought together students, teachers, and parents to celebrate the artistic and intellectual prowess of the school's community.

The day of the celebration started with an invocation and a prayer led by "The Pitches"- TLCA's official Musical Team featuring Grade 8 students with their Adviser Ms. Liezl Joy D. Romero as the Music Team adviser too. We also received a warm and inspiring message from Ms. Analyn Cabrillos, our school's Filipino teacher. The celebration featured various activities in which students showcased their talents.

Poster Making Contest

The Poster Making Contest was one of the highlights of the event, and it saw fierce competition among the participants. It was held the day before day of the official day of celebration. In the end, Grade 10 students, Angel Buhat and Carl Benedict M. Castillo with their adviser Mr. Jun Xavier B. Gicana as their coach, emerged as the champions, creating a visually stunning masterpiece that left the audience in awe.

Following closely behind were Grade 7 students, Lindcxy Millada and Catherin Sarad with their adviser Ms. Jun Flores as the coach, secured the first position. The second place was claimed by Grade 12 students, Ralph Cordova and Kurt Andrian Francisco with the coach Ms. Bhee Ann May C. Ramirez their adviser, who displayed their creative prowess through their artwork.

QuizBee

The QuizBee competition tested the students' knowledge and quick thinking. Grade 12 students, Jedrick Mendoza and Jossel Biron, coached by their very own adviser Ms. Bhee Ann May C. Ramirez showcased their intellectual prowess and secured the championship title. Grade 10 students, Jehann Labao and Ayesha Gerdon, secured the first position coached by Mr. Jun Xavier B. Gicana their class adviser, while Grade 11 students Jeric Laroya and Jennelyn Pelarin coached by Ms. Jessa Mae Bayaya, along with Lorelyn Gerdon and Qued Jun Jocson from Grade 8 coached by Ms. Liezl Joy D. Romero, shared the second position.

Ethnic Dance

The Ethnic Dance competition was a colorful and vibrant display of culture and tradition. Grade 12 students from the Psalms class wowed the audience with their performance and took home the championship title. Grade 10 students from the Timothy class secured the first position, while Grade 11 students from the Hebrews class came in second.

Spoken Word Poetry

The Spoken Word Poetry competition was a platform for students to express themselves through the power of words. Grade 8 student Jeymar S. Casuyon coached by Ms. Liezl Joy D. Romero from the Leviticus class took home the championship title. Joshua Mangubat from Grade 12 Psalms coached by Ms. Bhee Ann May C. Ramirez secured the first position, and Chrisherain Mae Junio from Grade 11 Hebrews coached by Ms. Jessa May Bayaya claimed the second position.

Declamation

In the Declamation competition, Grade 8 student Jyran Mae Valerio coached by Ms. Liezl Joy D. Romero delivered a powerful performance to become the champion. Ma. Teresa Valdez from Grade 12 Psalms coached by Ms. Bhee Ann May C. Ramirez secured the first position, while Benjie Solanoy from Grade 12 Proverbs coached by Mr. Kimbert S. Malo claimed the second position.

OPM (Original Pinoy Music)

The OPM competition celebrated the musical talents of the students. Grade 7 students from the Genesis class of Ms. Jun Flores, and Jovel Jonrel Narce, emerged as the champions. Mary Joy Sarad from Grade 7 Exodus of Ms. Jennylene Valera secured the first position, while Norie Jane Sandig from Grade 12 Proverbs coached by Mr. Kimbert S. Malo came in second.

Pinoy Henyo

The Pinoy Henyo competition challenged the students' wordplay skills, and it was Grade 12 students Norie Jane Sandig and Mary Luxzary Villarosa from the Proverbs class who claimed the championship title.

Traditional Filipino Games

The event also featured traditional Filipino games, with Grade 8 students excelling in Kadang, Grade 7 students showcasing their speed in the Sack Race, and Grade 11 students displaying their accuracy in the Pitik Kalamansi.

The Buwan ng Wika celebration provided a platform for students to showcase their talents and promoted camaraderie and unity within the school community while awakening the love for our Filipino culture and our national language.  It was a day filled with joy, excitement, and appreciation for the talents and skills of the students, leaving everyone eagerly awaiting next year's event.
